Looking Backward
Own Development in Studio

Week 1
12 July 2010
Mr Wan introduce HBP lecturers to us and all the first year students were asked to open 1 blog to update about their assignment and what they already learned. In this way it can actually slowly see our improvement or our development in thinking. Our thought will be post on the blog.
First of all , we were taught about the 6 element which are intention , act , product and actor , rule , place.
For every product there must be an intention to start with and followed by act in order to produce the product
Actor are the one who is working on it and there is always rule to follow or taken care. The project will always carried out at certain place.

16 July
Friday Talk : Knowing Yourself
We were given talk by Dr Illias who show us about powerpoint slide on the different situation of a poor student who get offered to study in USM and a rich student who get the offer. Both of them come in to USM with a very high hope that they will have good future next time with nice car and pretty girlfriend. On the day of registration , the poor student dad rent a bus to bring the whole kampung people here while the rich student dad bought a bus to bring the whole family to USM. We should have determination in order to achieve our goal. We are lucky been chosen as USM students and given chance to study and improve ourself by gaining knowledge at here. We should clearly know our life's mission to make sure we don wasted our time on not important things.
On the other hand , Mr Wan told us that we should be thankful to what we having now but not feeling that we are lucky because we having it. Im agreed with Mr. Wan because luck wont always be with us anyway.
Our assignment for this week is Me , My thought and I which enable the lecturer to see how mature is our thinking based on our design. Creativity is crucial.

Week 2
19 July 2010
This week is all about dot , line and shape. We had few assignment in order to improve our sketching and helps us to understand more. First of all we have to study the structure of the bamboo and we were asked to make 1 story for this assignment which related to joint. Either life joint , time joint or visual joint or others. The we have to draw 1 piece of drawing draw only with dots and 1 more piece of drawing only with line.


From this assignment , i learned to draw and sketch better because alot exercises been done. I learned about different pencil and marker that will be use in drawing and sketching after visit to the stationary shop. Furthermore im understand more about bamboo structure which last time i don even go near to a bamboo and study about it at all.

Friday Talk : Colour , Texture , Mathematics
Our assignment for today is to create a BST. This week's weekend was a terrible week beside we have our assignment which we have to cut the bamboo ourself, we actually having orientation for HBP first year students. Been a HBP student , we really must trained and build our body strength. It is not just about studying in HBP. We actually doing alot of project work which need alot of strength for example sawing the bamboo. Beside that , from this task I learned about sharing and tolerance because the tools from the workshop are insufficient.


Week 3
26 July 2010
We did mask for this week which related to the topic we learned for that day. Layers. The layers that overlap each other are call contour where the piece of layer getting thicker and thicker and the shape and getting less and less obvious.
Method of making mask:
First layer : baby oil
Second layer : wet tissue
Third layer onward : glue and tissue
From this assignment , it taught us to be seriously patient in doing things. We have to lie on a table for at least 2 hrs in order to completely dry the mask. Hardship bring success too Im proud and satisfied with the mask that we did.

Friday Talk : Visible and Invisible
From this talk i realised that people will easily forget about the things before this and will only remember the things that just happened.

Week 4
2 August 2010
Today we were taught about Human dimension. We were showed different way of drawing human. Some i think from Roman. The we were taught by Mr Wan how to draw human dimension and it should be apply to our this week assignment which was designing Casket.



Friday Talk : Vision and Rules
It abit related to what Mr Wan told on the first week. We shall set our vision now and in order to achieve our vision , there are act and always there are rules that should be taken care. Sometimes rules may tough for some of us but we must always bear in mind in order to achieve our vision.
Our assignment today is to design our black box which we can set the function of it.

Basically what we learned during these 2 week are about patriotisme and unity. Our assignment related to form space and shape that we learned before this. We decided to group with 3 malay guys because normally we joined we chinese only. Just to make some different because in future we may need to work with different people and we cant choose who are them.
Without unity , there wont be Malaysia. The history shall not be forgotten.

Week 8
30 August 2010
Class was cancelled and the assignment is issued online. Our assignment shall be post online during the Raya Week Friday.
A disaster kit should be design by us that could bring to the IBU.

Overall , after the 8 weeks in HBP , i think that im grow alot either in body strength or thinking. We shall not always complaining about someting but to work it out. Difficulties will frequently appear in our life. However , we determination and applying the 6 element that Mr. Wan always remind us , i believe that we could solve it.

Part B
Looking Forward
Contribution to the end of the world 2012

Date : 21 September
Lecturer : Mr Wan

I am expecting myself to contribute to the construction and building the PONDOK and IBU for the end of the world. Besides , I may control and manage the situation during the end of the world.

First of all , why i would like to say that im contribute to the construction of PONDOK and IBU is because im been exposed a lot about PONDOK and IBU. Our first assignment is about design the PONDOK using the USM's invention. We have to study and understand the invention first before we can start designing it so that it is relevant. As compared to other students from other universities, Im could understand better about the inventions and PONDOK and IBU. Better ideas and solutions can be given because we know what it really needed in order to survive during the end of the world.

As a quantity surverying student . i could help to do estimation. For example reduce the cost on building IBU and PONDOK so that the overall cost is cheaper. This is crucial because we don't hope that what in the 2012 movie will happened in the real life where only rich people is able to get in the big ship. And they mus pay for a very high price to buy the ticket. If can everyone should have the chance to survive. Furthermore , the space in PONDOK and IBU must be use and plan properly so that maximum number of people can be fit without affecting the comfort. Back to 2012 movie again, the space in the survival ship is wasted too much that they give the priority to making the rich people comfortable. King size beds are use and the space of a bathroom is very big. Hence we shall reduce the waste of space.

Furthermore , during the end of the world 2012 , i may contribute in managing the chaos. People easily get panic when the see the situation is not right because they have less knowledge about 2012. Me myself which already attended classes like RUS 101 and RAG 132 get to know more about 2012 from my lecturer. We been discussed it since our first assignment in RUS 101. We been prepared by our lecturer to face this situation by showing us different thoughts and beliefs of the world. Hence i believe that i could help to handle the situation during 2012.

Part C
Designing Monument

Date : 21 September
Lecturer : Mr Wan

Our 3th assignment for today is to design a monument for the end of the world. Which inside we shall put something that we wish to left behind.

Mr Wan told us about the Jewish Cemetery , " Kubur Yahudi ". We were asked to go to the Jewish Cemetery at Jalan Zainal Abidin near Komtar to learn more about it and take picture of it.


Our journey start at 2pm with a big group of friends. We met at Sg. Dua gate and went to komtar by Rapid bus. From Komtar bus station we walked to Jalan Zainal Abidin and finally we reach Jewish Cemetery. There are around 150 monument. Some of them were soldier , kid and woman. Besides, the monument is made of varies shape which represent different gender and different size which represent either small kid or adult. The area at Jewish Cemetery is not big,


After a visit to the Jewish Cemetery , i started my monument designing at night. My monument shape is a shape clock shape. I has chosen this shape because i hope that people in the future will remember about the pass and appreciate the present. Time flies and once it flies it will not be back anymore. The most important is maintain it so that is will be sustainable. They shall not forget about 2012 which may bring a new life to them.

Inside my monument , which is my memories , there are pictures , presents and biography. The pictures i put in it will show how wonderful and beautiful this world is beside showing my memories. If 2012 has bring the world to new reality where there is no green anymore, at least in the future they know that green actually exist in this world and they may take effort to bring bac green world. For example the movie Wall-E. Furthermore , there are biography of my family and friends which i collected it last time. The biography consists of wishes and information of them. Then i will put some of my presents inside it for example my favourite soft toy bear.

I wish to leave my memories with my monument. It is not because i wanted to forget about the sweet and sour memories i have but to share with other people. Although we may face a new world in 2012 but yet the memories or history of the moment share be remember.
